The traditional IT system consisted of centralised services, and communication (WAN) was based on connecting users at remote locations with the central location.
Today, IT systems are largely distributed. Part of the corporate services are still centralised, but an increasing number are being migrated to public cloud services. Also, in this highly digitalised age, company operations are highly reliant on the availability of all business services, and communications must enable access to the same. Managing and directing traffic can no longer be based on fundamental directing protocols, but instead on rules that prescribe the necessary level of security and the user experience.
For this reason, traditional WAN communication no longer meets these needs, and new forms of communication are needed that are based on software management: SD-WAN.
